About

Be for artists.

Bforartists is a free, open-source 3D suite built on Blender, with an interface reworked for artists: tools you can see, click and reach with a stylus. Made in the open since 2015.

What it is

Blender's power, laid out for artists.

Bforartists is a fork of Blender. Every engine, tool and file format stays the same; the interface around them is rebuilt, so tools show up as icons, buttons and menus instead of hiding behind hotkeys.

Why it was built

Another way into Blender.

Bforartists gives artists who want top-level access, and the open-source community, a real choice in how they work with Blender. It also brings familiar interface standards to people who want Blender's power but would never have picked it up otherwise.

The Bforartists interface
The name

B for Artists: be for artists.

The name is the promise, kept in three places: how it is developed, how its community works, and which features it gets. Stylus first: every tool should be within reach of a pen and a click, not only the keyboard.

Development philosophy

Every change follows the seven rules below, one careful change at a time, close to Blender.

Community

An open art community with no exclusivity and no walls: anyone can test, share and help shape the tool.

Feature set

Tools surfaced as icons, tabs and buttons, stylus first, with assets and sensible defaults out of the box.

The development philosophy

Seven rules behind every change.

Together they make Blender easier to see, find and learn.

The art community

An art community first.

Bforartists grows with the artists who use it. They test the builds, share their art, say what gets in the way and help each other on Discord. No paid tier, no exclusivity, no walls: anyone can join, and every release aims to make the tool a little more artist friendly.

How it exists

Kept free by Trinumedia and its community.

Trinumedia maintains Bforartists: a group of artists who ally to sponsor other artists and build a viable business, so Bforartists itself can stay free for everyone. Sponsors, volunteers and the art community carry the rest.

Trinumedia

Maintains the code and the servers and sponsors artists, funded by its own products and services.

Sponsors

Fund developer time and servers, once or every month.

Volunteers

Write code and docs, test builds and answer questions.

The community

Make art, share it and spread the word.

What comes next

More artist friendly with every release.

Bforartists keeps following Blender, release by release, and keeps turning hidden tools into ones you can see and click. Trinumedia aims to grow its products and services so it can sponsor more artists to work on it. The goal stays the same: a 3D tool made for artists, free for everyone.

Every Blender release

Bforartists follows Blender closely, so new engines and tools arrive soon after.

More within reach

More tools in the tool shelf, menus and toolbars, stylus first.

A growing library

More default assets, templates and manual pages in the download.
