What is Bforartists?
A free, open-source 3D suite: Blender with an interface reworked for artists.
Is it really free?Yes. GPL v3, no account, no nagware. The source is on GitHub.
Can I use it for commercial work?Yes. The license covers the software, not the art you make with it.
How is it different from Blender?Same features; a different interface, icons, keymap and manual.
Will my files and add-ons work?Every .blend file opens. Most add-ons work.
Why not just a Blender add-on?The changes live in the C code, which an add-on cannot reach.
Can I keep Blender's keymap?Yes. Bforartists has its own keymap, plus a Blender keymap and a macOS keymap.
How often is it updated?A new version follows each major Blender release; developer builds come about weekly.
Which systems does it run on?Windows 8.1+, macOS 11+ (10.15+ on Intel), Linux with glibc 2.28+.
Can you add feature X?Maybe, if it fits the interface and usability goals.
Who makes Bforartists?A small team and many contributors, maintained by Trinumedia.
